Key European leaders are congregating in Kyiv to deliberate on critical air-defense requirements for Ukraine and explore strategies to intensify pressure on Russia, as the frequency and lethality of attacks on Ukrainian cities escalate. This significant gathering, known as the Coalition of the Willing, is spearheaded by Britain, France, and Germany, with several other leaders from across Europe anticipated to join the discussions remotely. The meeting also includes the participation of EU Council President Antonio Costa.

Amidst this backdrop, Russian missile strikes have increasingly targeted urban centers in Ukraine, leading to civilian casualties and extensive damage to residential areas. In response, Ukraine has consistently appealed to its allies for enhanced air-defense systems and interceptor missiles to safeguard its populace against these aggressive offensives.

In a move to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities, Britain is poised to unveil its support package, while France plans to initiate local production of the long-range SCALP missile. Additionally, France has committed to supplying more interceptor missiles to fortify Ukraine’s air defenses.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised concerns regarding the reduced deliveries of Patriot interceptor missiles, noting that the numbers have seen a decline from 675 received in 2023 to 364 in 2025, with current projections for 2026 indicating a further drop to 264. As winter approaches, Kyiv is urgently seeking at least 300 interceptors to bolster its defense capabilities.

With Ukraine heavily reliant on sophisticated Western air-defense systems to counter the challenging threat posed by Russian ballistic missiles, European allies are actively exploring avenues to enhance supply chains while simultaneously maintaining diplomatic and military pressure on Moscow. This collaborative effort underscores the shared commitment of European nations to support Ukraine amid ongoing hostilities.
