by admin477351

Vietnam and Denmark have elevated their diplomatic ties by forming a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aiming to strengthen collaboration in areas such as trade, renewable energy, and technology. This new phase of cooperation was announced during talks between Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen, as both countries prepare to celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations in 2026.

Central to this partnership is the enhancement of trade and investment relations. Both leaders agreed to bolster the implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, aiming to improve market access and encourage businesses to participate in international supply chains. Denmark expressed a keen interest in increasing its investments in Vietnam, focusing on high-tech and environmentally friendly industries. Danish firms such as LEGO, Maersk, and Vestas have already contributed to this growing economic relationship, and Tô Lâm called for further investment promotion and policy dialogue to turn these commitments into tangible projects.

Renewable energy and sustainable development are also major priorities under the new agreement. Denmark has pledged to share its expertise and technology to aid Vietnam’s transition to cleaner energy sources and to help achieve its target of net-zero emissions by 2050. This includes mobilizing green finance and developing large-scale renewable energy projects, such as offshore wind power.

In addition to economic and environmental collaboration, the partnership will focus on technology and innovation. Both countries aim to foster cooperation in science and technology, with a focus on artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and digital transformation. Partnerships among universities, research institutes, and businesses will be encouraged to promote skills development and training of highly qualified professionals.

The leaders also discussed regional and international cooperation, expressing support for multilateralism and the importance of strengthening ties between the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Vietnam reaffirmed its readiness to facilitate stronger cooperation between Denmark and ASEAN.

Tô Lâm extended an invitation to Frederiksen to visit Vietnam, with both sides committed to ensuring that the new partnership results in practical benefits across their shared priorities. The talks concluded with the exchange of cooperation documents between organizations and businesses from both nations, marking a significant step forward in their bilateral relationship.
