The Turkish Parliament is set to deliberate on a significant new bill regarding the Turkish Red Crescent during its session this week. Scheduled for Tuesday, lawmakers will discuss legislation that aims to formally recognize the Turkish Red Crescent, as well as international and foreign Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations, as authorized bodies to receive and utilize both cash and in-kind assistance directed to Türkiye in ordinary and emergency situations.
The proposed legislation also includes provisions for compensating Turkish Red Crescent personnel who are actively engaged in operations during disasters, wars, conflicts, and other extraordinary circumstances. Additionally, it suggests that provincial and district leaders of the Red Crescent should become members of the boards of trustees of local Foundations for Social Assistance and Solidarity.
In the same parliamentary session, Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan is expected to present to the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Committee. His presentation is anticipated to cover a range of topics, including global economic developments, Türkiye’s economic conditions, inflation, and the monetary policy framework of the country.
Furthermore, the Parliamentary Public Works, Reconstruction, Transport, and Tourism Commission will review legislation related to foreign digital accommodation platforms, indicating a busy legislative agenda for the Turkish Parliament this week.
