Erdoğan Vows Investor Protection as Turkey Probes Fund Irregularities

by admin477351

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has committed to ensuring economic stability and protecting investors amidst an ongoing investigation into irregularities in the country’s capital markets. The government has set up a fully authorized board led by the vice president to supervise the liquidation of affected funds, while the State Supervisory Council has been instructed to assist in the process.

The Capital Markets Board has taken decisive action by ordering several investment funds managed by seven portfolio management companies to halt trading and begin liquidation as a protective measure for investors. This comes as authorities intensify their probe into alleged misconduct within the capital market sector, including fraud, money laundering, and violations of capital markets laws. As part of the judicial response, five individuals have been arrested in connection with these investigations.

Erdoğan emphasized the government’s resolve to hold accountable those responsible for any wrongdoing while ensuring that the investigation does not destabilize Türkiye’s broader financial system. He reassured that the issues identified are confined to a specific segment of the fund market, and necessary steps are being taken to uphold financial stability.

As the probe continues, the government remains focused on maintaining investor confidence and economic resilience. Erdoğan’s statements highlight a commitment to transparency and accountability in addressing the alleged market irregularities, aiming to bolster trust in Türkiye’s financial institutions and regulatory practices.
