Erdoğan Assures Türkiye’s Capital Markets Stable Despite Fund Sector Issues

by admin477351

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reassured the public that Türkiye’s capital markets are stable despite recent turmoil in the investment fund sector. Following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan addressed concerns over suspected share-price manipulation that has affected several thinly traded stocks, leading to losses and redemption pressures on certain investment funds.

Emphasizing that the issue is confined to a specific segment of the fund market, Erdoğan stated that the government is actively managing the situation to safeguard financial stability and protect investors. Authorities are overseeing the liquidation of the affected funds and are implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Legal actions are also being pursued against those responsible for actions destabilizing the market.

Earlier this month, investigations were initiated to probe the alleged manipulations, which have since triggered significant market repercussions. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek confirmed that legal proceedings are ongoing and reiterated the commitment to maintaining financial stability through sustained measures.

As part of the government’s response, Erdoğan is anticipated to meet with economic officials and relevant institutions to evaluate the situation further and discuss additional strategies for the fund market. This proactive approach aims to ensure that the broader financial system remains unaffected by isolated disturbances in the capital markets.
