In a significant diplomatic engagement, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir at Ankara Airport during Munir’s two-day visit to Türkiye. This meeting occurred just before President Erdoğan’s departure for an official trip to Qatar.
Accompanying Erdoğan at the airport were key Turkish officials, including Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Chief of General Staff Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalın. Earlier in the visit, Munir had engaged in separate discussions with Bayraktaroğlu, highlighting the importance of military and strategic dialogues between the two nations.
This visit underscores the ongoing efforts by Türkiye and Pakistan to fortify their strategic alliance, with a particular focus on defense collaboration. Asim Munir has increasingly been at the forefront of Pakistan’s international diplomacy, contributing to mediation efforts concerning regional conflicts and tensions.
Under the stewardship of President Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the bilateral relationship has seen expansion across various sectors. However, defense continues to be a cornerstone of their cooperation, reflecting the mutual interests and strategic priorities of both countries.
