Google AI’s Bilingual Source Variation Highlights Distinct Tech Visibility Markets

by admin477351

A recent study conducted by the Turkish artificial intelligence firm Citelens has unveiled notable differences in how Google’s AI Overviews source information for business inquiries posed in Turkish versus English. This discovery underscores the necessity for brands to develop language-specific AI visibility strategies, as the digital landscape diverges significantly between languages.

The research scrutinized 444 business-related questions, analyzing the sources that Google’s AI cited in its responses. The investigation revealed that a mere 22% of the domains referenced overlapped between the English and Turkish responses. This finding suggests that a brand’s visibility in one language does not guarantee equivalent exposure in another, emphasizing the importance for businesses to tailor their digital strategies according to language.

Furthermore, the study highlighted that AI Overviews were generated for 96% of English queries and 94% of Turkish ones. While the overall availability of AI responses was similar, the choice of sources varied considerably based on language and regional context. This indicates that businesses focusing on the Turkish market cannot rely solely on their English-language presence and must instead prioritize local content and regional authority sources to ensure visibility in Turkish AI results.

Citelens recommends that brands adopt a distinct approach to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) for each language and market they target. To effectively track AI visibility in Turkey, businesses should measure their performance within Turkish search environments rather than using English benchmarks. The company’s research methodology involved comparing AI-generated answers across different country and language settings, scrutinizing the source domains from numerous queries.

These findings highlight the growing challenge of localized AI visibility, where businesses must implement tailored strategies to enhance their presence across diverse languages and regions. As AI platforms increasingly influence which information is recommended, the importance of adapting digital strategies to align with specific language and market contexts becomes ever more critical.
