Istanbul Braces for Flooding as Heavy Rain and Storms Persist

by admin477351

Heavy rains sweeping across Istanbul are intensifying the risk of floods, waterlogging, and disruptions in transportation, according to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center. The rainfall, which began affecting parts of the city early in the morning, is expected to strengthen around 11 a.m. and continue until it gradually eases by 4 p.m.

The city has experienced a noticeable drop in temperatures, sinking to around 14°C, with levels remaining below seasonal averages throughout the day. The clash between cold air aloft and warm, moisture-laden air near the surface is likely to trigger thunderstorms, lightning, and strong showers.

Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for Istanbul and several provinces in the Marmara and western Black Sea regions. These warnings highlight the potential for sudden flooding, strong winds, lightning, and possible transport disruptions due to the adverse weather conditions.

Residents and commuters are advised to stay vigilant and be prepared for the possibility of rapidly changing weather conditions. Despite the current weather challenges, an improvement is on the horizon, with conditions expected to clear up by Thursday. Temperatures are projected to rise to around 21°C, and significant rainfall is not forecasted for the coming days.
