In a historic achievement, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government has become the longest-serving administration in the Italian Republic’s history, a milestone that prompted congratulations from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Erdoğan expressed his admiration for Meloni’s leadership and expressed optimism about the future of Türkiye-Italy relations, underscoring a commitment to further strengthen the ties between the two nations.

Meloni’s administration marked 1,413 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days held by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government from 2001 to 2005. Since taking office in October 2022 as Italy’s first female prime minister, Meloni has cultivated a close working relationship with Erdoğan, engaging in ongoing discussions about bilateral and regional issues that concern both countries.

The partnership between Türkiye and Italy has seen notable progress across various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. Both countries have coordinated efforts on regional challenges, notably in Libya and Ukraine. In April 2025, Erdoğan and Meloni co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome, which resulted in several agreements aimed at enhancing their strategic and economic collaboration.

Most recently, the two leaders met during the NATO summit held in Ankara in July. There, they reaffirmed their commitment to expanding trade, boosting mutual investments, and strengthening cooperation in defense and other key strategic areas. These meetings underscore the deepening ties between Türkiye and Italy, with both leaders committed to fostering a robust partnership well into the future.
