In a bid to bolster economic collaboration, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently engaged in discussions with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra and Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. The meetings centered around enhancing trade and investment ties between India and Finland, with a shared vision of fostering economic growth and cooperation.

The dialogues opened avenues for expanding partnerships in crucial sectors such as digitalisation, innovation, research and development, and the startup ecosystem. Both nations expressed a keen interest in exploring synergies in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space, and sustainability. These sectors are seen as pivotal in driving future economic growth and competitiveness.

A significant topic of discussion was the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The potential FTA is viewed as a critical instrument for enhancing bilateral trade, attracting investment, and creating new business opportunities. Both countries are aligned in their efforts to leverage this agreement to strengthen their economic ties.

These meetings are part of ongoing negotiations between India and the European Union for a comprehensive trade agreement. The aim is to fortify economic relations and boost cooperation across various strategic sectors, which could yield substantial benefits for businesses and economies on both sides.
