Türkiye’s defense and aerospace industry has reached a significant milestone, surpassing $11 billion in exports on a rolling 12-month basis for the first time. This achievement underscores the growing global appeal of Turkish defense products and the robust expansion of the nation’s defense sector. In June alone, exports hit $802.8 million, marking a notable 29.6% increase compared to the same month last year. Over the first six months of the year, exports rose by 29.5% year-on-year, totaling $4.67 billion.
Haluk Görgün, President of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), highlighted that the increase in exports is indicative of the rising international demand for Türkiye’s defense systems, which have proven their capabilities in real-world scenarios. This success is helping to forge durable international partnerships, further embedding Türkiye in the global defense market. The strategic development of its defense manufacturing ecosystem has been a key factor in this growth.
Over the past two decades, Türkiye has made significant strides in bolstering its domestic defense industry, aiming to decrease its dependence on foreign military equipment. This strategic push has positioned the country as a formidable player on the global stage, particularly in defense exports. Currently, Türkiye offers over 230 defense products to markets in 185 countries, a testament to its extensive reach and influence in the industry.
The country’s ambitions are set even higher, with goals to enter the ranks of the top 10 defense exporters worldwide. This aspiration is supported by the continued innovation and effectiveness of Turkish-made defense systems, which have become highly sought after by international partners. The strategic investments and advancements within Türkiye’s defense sector are paving the way towards achieving this objective, showcasing its growing prowess and dedication to excellence in the field.
